If there’s a gal who can practice hygge like a pro (the Danes, that is), it’s a literary lady. And after a long work week, nothing is quite as refreshing as a cozy night at home. That’s why we’ve rounded up a few of our favorite ideas for creating the ultimate night in. (You can thank us later!)
1) Light Candles
Set the scene for hygge with a little mood lighting. Candles are perfect for adding a cozy element to any room, not to mention the warm scents that accompany them. We love vanilla bean and cinnamon selections. To keep that cozy glow all year long, hang some fairy lights in the living room for a more intimate setting.
2) Get Lost In A Chunky Knit Blanket Or Sweater
Nothing quite says cozy like sinking into a soft blanket or oversized sweater. Click here to read our post on the five comfy sweaters we want to lounge in while reading. Or, we’d also be just as happy settling for a fresh pair of PJs straight from the dryer.
3) Cuddle Up With A Good Book
Once you’re good and warm, crack open that novel you’ve been dying to finish. Or if it’s more of a Netflix and chill kinda night, keep things literary with these book-to-movie adaptations available to stream: The Great Gatsby (1974 with Robert Redford), Death Comes To Pemberley, Bridget Jones’s Diary, Coraline, Atonement, and The Prestige.
4) Indulge In A Little Dessert
Settle down with a bottle of wine and some chocolate. If you’re in the mood for something warm, perhaps a decadent cup of hot chocolate is your best bet. Try this recipe if you’re a coffee lover, too! But not many things can match the blissful treat and scent of cookies straight from the oven, like this chocolate chip recipe!
The ultimate night of cozy doesn’t include smartphones, tablets, or laptops. Leave your phone in another room so you won’t be tempted to glance at it during your night of relaxation.
